Accessibility and ableism at Metamorfosis
At Metamorfosis we strive to create an enviroment that is centered around care, inclusion and solidarity. We want to create spaces that are as safe as possible and break down oppressive behaviors. However, we all have been socialized in an oppressive society and will bring these into the space, whether we intend to or not. One of these oppressive systems - one that still remains very invisibilized, even in political groups - is ableism. We want to stand in solidarity with people affected by ableism, and start a process of breaking down barriers at our festival (and beyond). This page will list some of these concrete efforts, while acknowledging the many limits both because of physical and financial capacity, as well as limits in our own self-reflection process, as the organizing team has been mainly socialized as able-bodied.
We are aware that it can be draining to ask for so-called special needs, so we will try to do our best in being transparent about the support we are able to provide at the festival. However, we still want everyone to know that they can always reach out to us in case of any concerns or requests, and we are very happy to look for solutions together.
Ableism refers to the devaluation and structural discrimination of people with disabilities. Ableism is about how non-disabled people evaluate the lives of people with disabilities, what images and stereotypes they have in mind when they think of people with disabilities. But it is also about the barriers that society creates and maintains. People are disabled by society. Some people therefore refer to themselves as "affected by ableism", as "disabled", or as "person with disabilities".

We encourage non-disabled folks to check out the flyer attached below with some advice and guiding questions to start a self-reflection process around ableism.
